Flamingo balance test

  • This test measures your ability to stand on one leg
  • Equipment- flat surface, brick, stop watch

Standing on a brick with one leg

  • Bend the other leg and bring it to the hip while maintaining balance
  • Stay in this position for 60 seconds.
  • The stopwatch should be stopped as soon as the person loses his balance

Discuss about plate tapping test?

Equipment- a table, two yellow discs, a rectangle, a stopwatch

  • Place two yellow discs on the table with a distance of 60 cm between their centres. Place the rectangle at an equal distance between the two discs.
  • The participant should stand comfortably in front of the disc.
  • Place your non-preferred hand on the rectangle.
  • On the command go the participant will begin tapping the yellow discs one after the other with their preferred hand as quickly as possible.
  • This action will be repeated for 25 complete cycles (50 taps). Scoring: The time taken to complete 25 cycles is recorded in seconds.

Discuss about sit and reach test?

  • The flexibility of the body is measured through this test.
  • Accessories: Sit and reach box Measuring tape Pen and paper for keeping score and records

Sit and Reach Test:-

This was first done by Wells and Dillon in 1952.

Procedure:-

  • Remove shoes and socks and sit on the floor with your legs stretched straight ahead. The soles of your feet should be set straight along the box.
  • Both knees should be parallel to the floor.
  • The palms should be facing downwards.
  • The hands can be on top of each other or even side by side.
  • The person moves both his hands forward along the measuring line and on the box as far as possible for him to reach.
  • Do not use jerks or bounces to make it travel longer distances

Discuss PUSH UP for boys and modified push ups for girls?

Push Ups - builds upper body strength, endurance and track stability. Equipment required: Flat clean padded surface / Gym mat / Yoga mat Process of Push Ups : The push up starts with the hands and toes touching the ground, the body and legs in a straight line, feet slightly apart, arms extended shoulder-width apart and at right angles to the body.

Keeping the back and knees straight, the subject will lower the body to a predetermined point, either to touch another object or until a 90° angle is reached at the elbow, then return to the starting position with the arms extended.

For girls: In the pushup technique, the knees will be kept on the ground. The rest of the process will remain the same.

Scoring: Record the number of correct and completed push-ups.

Harvard Step Test

Harvard Step Test -

This is a cardiovascular confirmation test that measures the muscle strength of the heart and lungs

Objective -

The ability of the heart and lung muscles to work and the rate of recovery of strength after work is measured.

Required Tools -

  • a bench
  • Stopwatch

Process - First of all, the person's resting pulse rate is counted. Then the person stands in front of the bench.

  • As soon as the examiner says Go, the person goes up and down the bench at a speed of 30 steps per minute.
  • He has to do this action continuously for 5 minutes.
  • That means 150 steps have to be taken in 5 minutes
  • The rhythm of the steps is done in counts of four.
  • For example, on the first count one foot is on the bench, on the second count the other foot is also on the bench, on the third count the first foot is on the ground and on the fourth count the second foot also comes on the ground.
  • During this entire process, the person has to keep his body straight and he can use any leg first or later.
  • As soon as the person completes this action and sits on the bench, then exactly after one minute the person's pulse is counted  for 1 to 1½ minutes.

Scoring-

This score is called Physical Efficiency Index. It is calculated in the formula.

Chair Seat and Reach Testing

Evaluating seniors' lower body flexibility to maintain proper posture, normal gait, and a variety of mobility tasks such as getting into a car or tying your shoelaces.

equipment -

  • scale
  • Chair

Procedure - The chair is placed against the wall so that the participant can sit comfortably on the edge.

  • One foot is kept flat on the floor and the other foot is kept forward with the knee straight. The foot and ankle should be 90% flexed.
  • Keeping the upper ends of the middle fingers of both hands equal, place one hand on top of the other.
  • Participants will be asked to inhale and keep both hands in normal position and exhale while bending the body at the hips and taking the hands towards the toes. Back is straight and head is up.
  • Avoid any kind of jerk or bounce and never over-stretch. Keep the knee straight and pause for 2 seconds during the reach.
  • Measure the distance between the toes and fingers.

If the toes touch then the score is zero, if they do not touch then the score is negative (the distance between the toes and the tips of the fingers is measured), but if the participant's toes and fingers cover each other then the score is positive and whatever the distance is, is measured.

Johnson Metheny Test of Motor Educability
