China and America play an important role in the politics of South Asia. Due to the need of development and globalization, both the Asian countries, China and India, have come closer.
America has improved its relations with both India and Pakistan after the Cold War.
Economic reforms took place in both the countries. Liberal policies were adopted. This further deepened American involvement in South Asia.
The number of people of South Asian origin in America is high. The population of South Asia region is high and the market size is large. Therefore, America's interests are also tied to the future of security and peace in this region.
SAARC is a major regional initiative by Asian states to develop cooperation through multilateral means.
